Poll Results & Bug Fix!
Hello everyone and welcome to a mid-week update! We saved this update since it's quite boring and a bit more of a โcleaning upโ kind of update. Today we have news about our recent community poll and some changes to auctions.
๐ Community Poll Results
Our community poll results are in! We asked you to vote on updating all the old art to generics or not. The results of the poll show 96 of you voted with 57.3% voting to update all the horse art to our new style using generic bases. This means all breeds in-game that donโt have their own stand-alone art will keep a generic base until their art is updated.
However, we were asked if we would consider this suggestion and add these changes should all the art be updated to the new style. Of which, we are happy to oblige. As an exciting bit of an art sneak peek letโs take a look at our generic draft base with these fancy bolder base colors.
With the updated colors, we will be re-working our currently in progress bases. This means we are pushed back a bit with releases with a new goal to have all the campaign breeds done by mid-January and currently done pures done by the end of January. Thunderbolt will be working on our generic horse bases which means the switch to those will occur once those are ready to release. The date we change over to all of the new art style is TBD. We are working to both release new base colors, release updated tack, and release the full back log of all our bases. Whew. Lots to do!
๐ฆ Auction Changes
Apparently during the life-time of our auctions there has been a major bug that allowed folks to magically make ingots and money appear. Thankfully, we were alerted to this but have found that the auction bug had previously been seriously abused. Due to our logging system, most of the bug abuse can not be traced back and we are having to check questionable accounts manually. Sadly, several players who abused the bug have been able to have ingots in-game without spending any RL money which has cost the game a very pretty penny and put many ingots on the market that should not be. A huge thank you to those who reported this bug to us and were honest when you realized what had happened. To those who abused the error, you will only be able to see this news from afar as your accounts have been banned.
Now on to the changes. Due to the nature of the bug and after getting input from our staff, we have removed the option to delete your auction bids. This means when you bid on an auction you can no longer remove that bid. Auctions now function like: you place a bid, a pop up asks you to confirm you want to make a bid, you confirm and your bid is placed and bid amount removed from your total.
โจ New Moderator
We are happy to welcome back our moderator pal, beni! Beni has returned to the HoFa team as one of our moderators. You will see her around the site, along with the rest of the team, with a green โMโ badge.
Have a great rest of the week!
Cheers,
Curly, Roze, ERA & Beni
My reasoning is because my horses wont look right. Say you breed a horse but what it looks like wont be the end result. Or any wilds you capture you dont truly know what it should really look like. At least as the right breed it will look close to how it should, the new art isn't totally that drastically different. They all have similar poses, so their breed art won't be that far off.
Its one thing for campaigns as most are player made breeds, you wont know what to expect. But I would rather have my fjords look like fjords and shetlands like shetlands, etc then every single breed be the same generic light or pony or draft. I don't see how all horses looking the same minus a few exceptions is any less jarring.
Nevermind that this time next year, my breeds could still be generic and how many would have aged up and retired, never getting to have their art until they are just empty shells in retirement.

That would be true anyway at this point with the markings changing - I was super disappointed when the Thoroughbred art got changed and my customs didn't look like the customs I'd originally made. We won't truly know what any of them look like until their art is completed. Even if you caught a really pretty wild today, and their art is updated with their new, permanent breed art, that isn't to say that it'll look even similar.
I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time with it, change is definitely a struggle.
great to see beni back on the team!! ๐
didn't vote on this because i couldn't see a better option either way, too many downsides for both imo. so while i'm neither disappointed nor happy about the result, i do feel the playerbase being so divided is very significant.
i know a situation like this is really tough to handle because even without such a clear divide like this, it's impossible to please everyone either way. in the state of the game right now, doing what is best for the team should definitely take priority. but i just hope considerations for both sides of this debate can be made where possible.
though as someone obsessed with dress-up lol, i also feel tack isn't a high priority. i know i've brought up issues with tack before a lot, but it's just because i've always seen the โbugs can't be fixed unless they're in the bug boxโ reminder since i joined. so while i feel like in general, tack issues have been talked about a lot and have made up a lot of the bug box, i personally don't think that automatically makes them the biggest issue in the game right now.
i can see how tack has been putting a lot of pressure on the development side, but a lot of people don't use tack at all and so i can understand this all feeling like a decision has been made for them.
really happy about the colors being looked into! i think that black draft is really close to what we've been looking for, just a touch too light in the shade and a little bit blueish. the chestnut and bay have such a gorgeous rich tone to both of them!

Based on the replies here I'm not sure people are understanding the full scope of โtemporaryโ. There are 40 (if I counted correctly) breeds that need new art still. at a generous rate of completing one breed per month, that's Three Years and three months minimum before we get all new art. So a year from now, just under two thirds (about 60%) of breeds will still have generic bases (assuming the artists take no breaks or anything).
I still think Maki's point in the last thread is a huge one- it will discourage both active play and new players. If I saw a game that had all the same art across multiple breeds I just wouldn't bother with it- I wouldn't dig through the forums to find a reason or anything I'd just move on to the next game.
Also as a current player I would not bother playing with any breeds that haven't been redone yet- a lot I only do now because I like the old art for them & it gives me incentive to keep them at least until the new art is released, even if I don't end up liking it. Now if everything looks the same, where's the motivation supposed to come from? I may as well just leave the game until the majority of the breeds I like are done. I have campaign breeds that're finished that I can mess around with, but I'm just one player. there will be people who don't have campaigns finished (many) and also people who don't have any breeds they like redone yet, or potentially for years to come.
New tack won't bring much incentive to current players either as it'll look the same across all the generic bases. I wouldn't buy anything but basic tack items for breeds that don't have new art- I have no clue if it'll still look okay when it gets updated. There are definitely tack items that suit some breeds better than others & I'm not willing to gamble on it.
I'm grateful that the Auction stuff has been changed. It was quite jarring to have people cancel their bids and get money back when one shouldn't have, but I honestly did not even remotely think about ingots being canceled and people getting that extra back and then not saying anything as I simply had bits returned to me and I did the best I could making sure I returned it.
Glad to see beni is back as a mod. I'm also curious, if down the line the helpers will be reinstated and be brought on again? Or perhaps redone because who knows if, how much, the previous helpers have come back to play the game or not.
@Seance even with the new art though, it still looks like the breed. The new art is generally still the same pose. Aside from the color and markings being off, they aren't all that different. Whereas generic is vastly different from a lot of breeds.

I'm pretty sure we're getting more than one breed of horse per month according to the notion page.
There are six breeds in the tack adjusting/ color correction phase, two of which are purebreeds. And two more purebreeds that are in the coloring phase. Thunder and the tack/color artists are working quite a bit faster than I would have expected.

Uhhg bummer. I really hate to see my poor Morgans get generic-ified. I wish that there had been a timeline given, I'm (hopeful?) art will come faster than 1 a month, but if it doesn't? I joined and chose Morgans, because they are my fave breed and honestly, I'm not terribly fazed looking between new and old art. It's not like it swaps within a breed. I don't use tack, I just like to see my pretty Morgans.
I've been getting busy lately, but maybe time for a pony freeze and see where this all goes.

For me tack had nothing to do with it I literally didn't like having three different art styles in one game to me its very jarring and blatantly noticeable and it seems kinda pointless to me with spending a lot of time fixing things that will just be changed anyways in the coming months or next few years
@Champagne, according to the Notion page, we haven't had a purebred release since November last year, So even if we had all the current in progress purebreds released this month, it would still be less than one per month. Being generous, we had the generic light cross release in March, so that's April, May, June, July, August, September and October with no new releases. So even if we get 4 new breeds released this month, that's still less than 1 per month progress-wise.
