Community Poll, Sneak Peeks, & Bug Fixes

10/25/2025 8:52 am

Howdy everyone! Today we have an update that includes a big decision for our playerbase, some sneak peeks, and as usualโ€ฆbug fixes!

๐Ÿ“ Community Poll

We are working hard to get the completed new art bases finished and new tack adjusted to them. We have run into a bit of a dilemma and wanted to poll the community on possible options.

We want to know everyone's opinion of moving all non-new art breeds to the new art style using updated generic bases until new breed art is released.

Why?

First, our main issue pertains to releasing new tack. We already have announced we will not be re-doing tack for breeds in the old art style when we release the updated english, western, and other tack. However, if we want to add any new tack that means it has to be complete for old art breeds as well as new art breeds. If we choose to keep the old art style breeds, this means we will no longer release new tack. We will not release new tack because we do not want to spend more man hours and money toward art that we know will have to be redone anyway. This includes not releasing new gems, tack colors, saddle/bridle/pad types, winter tack sets etc..

Second, having a consistent art style across the game would be much more appealing to new joins and also reduce confusion. We have already seen some confusion about the mane/tail guides not working for old art as well as confusion about why some art looks updated and others doesn't.

Lastly, if we transition to using all updated generic bases we will be able to more quickly release new tack, fix any image bugs, and complete new bases due to more art time. Currently, some art fixes take awhile due to having to fix them for every breed and we spend many hours weekly fixing art on old bases anyway. Because of the amount of time spent on this we are now stopping any image fixes for old art breeds. Ex. Broken marking layers, missing pad colors etc. We are having to be very careful of our budgeting and spending on fixing things that will be redone soon anyway is eating into our dev and new art budget. For perspective, image fixes for old art took up ~40% of the time spent last week.

TLDR:

- We are proposing using updated generic bases for all non-updated breed art

- Doing so would allow for adding new tack. We will not be adding any new tack should we keep using the old art style which includes gems, colored pads, winter tack sets etc.

- Consistent art style reduces confusion and allows for use of mane/tail styling for all

- Having to fix old art style breeds tack and markings is taking many hours weekly away from working on new art. We will no longer be doing so.

We have set up a form here for you to go vote if you want to see this change or not. Voting ends October 28th at 5PM EST.

โœจ Sneak Peeks!

Speaking of new art! Thunderbolt has been busy sketching out our next THREE purebred art bases. We held a poll in our Premium Corner forum asking what breeds you want to see updated next. Our top 3 wereโ€ฆ

I dont know how I feel about generic art for all. Wouldnt you eventually then have to update the tack and manes and tails and such for when you give them proper new art? Isnt that double the amount of work?

I also would feel weird having a generic art and maybe getting attached to it only for it to change again. Or new players might get confused about breeds all sharing a generic art. I personally would rather join a game where each breed looks unique and understand that the art is slowly being updated.

I like the idea of new tack and what not but I am willing to wait if need be. Or only have it available to updated breeds. I understand it can be confusing, like the manes and tails, but I think everything will make sense with proper disclaimers.

Yaaayy new breed art!!

The appies neck looks a tad bit short. The Irish Draugh looks worlds better! Omigosh look at those Tekes!

None that I breed but depending on the turnout maybe I might grab a few haha

I still look forward to new Walker art. I am partially biased of course, but when they get updated I will absolutely breed them. I just hope we can have natural gaited art and not parked out art. Their gaits are so pretty ๐Ÿ˜ and my boy never naturally stood parked out and its not flattering imo. Especially when they are so versatile, I think its enjoyable to show their gaits.

As for the floating flower decor for all breeds, I commented on the bug and linked four horses still broken.

Thanks for all you guys do!

Oof, I can definitely see the dilemma. I am torn because I will absolutely mourn the Hano and TWH art, but I can see the need to swap.

Before I can support the swap, I have to ask if this feature is going to be addressed - https://horsefable.com/feature-request/56 - with how much traction it has, I'm surprised there's been no staff comment on it. My biggest hang up on the new art has been the drastic change in base colors. Will you guys consider adjusting base colors with how much community support it's gotten?

The new art looks very promising! The ID to me unfortunately looks very close to the Stav sketch.

First off, thank you so much for creating a poll and giving players a voice. I think Maki raises a really good point about maintaining the uniqueness of the breeds and keeping the old art. I think this adds life to the game.

Perhaps you could make a sticky post about the breed art and give the art status on each one ? I think that would help us old players be able to see the progress and give the new players something to reference and alleviate confusion.

Also we don't have new art for generic pony and draft crosses, so I'm assuming those would have to be completed first.

Love the art sneak peeks!

@reddRookk Yeah, unfortunately the Stavs and the Irish Draughts have a somewhat similar build of a heavier warmblood/light draft, with a larger frame and a slight roman nose. The pose similarity is mostly coincidental, as I was trying to keep the ID as close in the pose to the original as possible and it ended up very similar to the proposed Stav pose. I tried my best to differentiate them with different head/neck positions and manes, but I'm definitely open to suggestions.

@StormHeart - So far I think the closest thing to such a status tracker is the table of art releases: https://horsefable.notion.site/HoFa-Horse-Art-15b566a800aa80b2a8b2e4740a102c17 it doesn't include all the breed art, but gives a rough idea which breeds are worked on and what's their status.

I feel like I'm in the minority in that I think updating all breeds to generic bases is a good idea. Mainly to make the art all uniform instead of the mixed old/new art we currently have. Plus like has been said newer players keep getting confused by the fact that grooming doesn't work on old bases.

@Thunder - thank you for answering on the discord. I appreciate so much your transparency and talking through your thought process! Very excited to see both!

@Curly - thank you for opening this to the players to make this choice. I'm sure it'll be a difficult decision either way.

@Thunderbolt I know the first priority is the appaloosa, but maybe the Irish Draught could have a lower, more relaxed neck position to differentiate it from the Staverden? The current Irish Draught doesn't have as much of an upright head carriage as the new sketch.
