Community Poll, Sneak Peeks, & Bug Fixes

Howdy everyone! Today we have an update that includes a big decision for our playerbase, some sneak peeks, and as usualโ€ฆbug fixes!

๐Ÿ“ Community Poll

We are working hard to get the completed new art bases finished and new tack adjusted to them. We have run into a bit of a dilemma and wanted to poll the community on possible options.

We want to know everyone's opinion of moving all non-new art breeds to the new art style using updated generic bases until new breed art is released.

Why?

First, our main issue pertains to releasing new tack. We already have announced we will not be re-doing tack for breeds in the old art style when we release the updated english, western, and other tack. However, if we want to add any new tack that means it has to be complete for old art breeds as well as new art breeds. If we choose to keep the old art style breeds, this means we will no longer release new tack. We will not release new tack because we do not want to spend more man hours and money toward art that we know will have to be redone anyway. This includes not releasing new gems, tack colors, saddle/bridle/pad types, winter tack sets etc..

Second, having a consistent art style across the game would be much more appealing to new joins and also reduce confusion. We have already seen some confusion about the mane/tail guides not working for old art as well as confusion about why some art looks updated and others doesn't.

Lastly, if we transition to using all updated generic bases we will be able to more quickly release new tack, fix any image bugs, and complete new bases due to more art time. Currently, some art fixes take awhile due to having to fix them for every breed and we spend many hours weekly fixing art on old bases anyway. Because of the amount of time spent on this we are now stopping any image fixes for old art breeds. Ex. Broken marking layers, missing pad colors etc. We are having to be very careful of our budgeting and spending on fixing things that will be redone soon anyway is eating into our dev and new art budget. For perspective, image fixes for old art took up ~40% of the time spent last week.

TLDR:

- We are proposing using updated generic bases for all non-updated breed art

- Doing so would allow for adding new tack. We will not be adding any new tack should we keep using the old art style which includes gems, colored pads, winter tack sets etc.

- Consistent art style reduces confusion and allows for use of mane/tail styling for all

- Having to fix old art style breeds tack and markings is taking many hours weekly away from working on new art. We will no longer be doing so.

We have set up a form here for you to go vote if you want to see this change or not. Voting ends October 28th at 5PM EST.

โœจ Sneak Peeks!

Speaking of new art! Thunderbolt has been busy sketching out our next THREE purebred art bases. We held a poll in our Premium Corner forum asking what breeds you want to see updated next. Our top 3 wereโ€ฆ

I voted right after the news went up, so Its bit too late to change it up I am sure or what not.    But even then I have mixed opinions and feelings on both sides.

I am one who would rather see time and focus on the redoing of breed art and not more, extra, new tacks.     I am also a visual person, who has MANY light breeds, and all of them sharing the same base would beโ€ฆ. a lot for my brain, ability of ease for a lot of things in game would go out the window, I dont think I would really like exploring for wilds or foundation pulls in the meantime.    Its hard to get a feel for everyone with the generic base when you know thats not how it would look on actual breed art (I dont mind it for crosses because well.. they are crosses and if for a campaign you dont really know what they will look like anyways until they are completed)       I think the biggest part here is just, how long would we have mass generics?    Art takes time, especially when done well - the longer you have mass generics the longer you raise possible issues for older players with SO MANY HORSES, but also if plays roulette with keeping new players because so many people join and pick breeds based on how they look and what they like.     I know if I had joined to mass generics I maybe would have thinked twice about trying out the game (but I also know others dont care as much about visuals like that)

On the other side of things, if mass generics meant that the feature request for color adjustments could be addressedโ€ฆ..     I would take the generics for now just so colors get fixed and adjusted (though dont see why the new breeds couldn't already get it?)    BUT I would still prefer that time and money go towards art redoes and color corrections over new tack and the sorts as fun as it can be (or even time towards more updated current tack and decorations so that they fit / sit better and visually look better with the new art!    There is a lot of distortion and lil things with the current tack that would be nice to see get love too :D )

Either way you guys are doing an awesome job with things, and the communication and looking for feedback has been such a needed breath of fresh air.       ~Just gonna be a happy lil gamer over here because at least I can play with my pixels to end off the year!  And spend more money on something again LOL~

I personally wouldn't want the singular generic base for every breed. Not only does it double the work in the long run, but it also takes away from the individuality of each breed until they are updated.
