unpopular opinions in hofa?

hello everyone! I'm just curious as to what y'all's unpopular hofa opinions are! it can be anything, and I'll go first!

1). once a horse reaches offspring limit, it should be fixed. or once a horse breed that doesn't have a set limit, reaches 5-10 foals, it should be fixed. or, if anything, if a horse can reach a set offspring limit, then take it off stud/brood if you don't want it fixed.

2). horses shouldn't be able to be set up for breeding, until they are of the right level to breed. it's frustrating when I go to breed but the horse isn't the right level.

3). unboarded horses shouldn't be allowed to be set up for breeding either. went to breed awbs, and most of the mares I believe aren't even boarded, so it was hard to find a mare.

these are just mine! remember to not judge others for their unpopular opinion(s)! what are your unpopular opinions?

I would definitely say unpopular as they control they way others play which isnt fair at all.

While I agree horses with limited breedings should no longer show up when they hit that max, any that dont have limited breedings can be bred as much as a player wants, not how much you think they should be bred. I personally prefer less foals out of my horses, especially my mares, but I am not going to try to dictate how much anyone else breeds their horses.

The same goes with levels. While it is ideal to breed at 50 minimum, you can breed whenever. Again though, when it comes to having to be level 25, they should not be able to be put up until then. The issues with limited breeding horses has come up before so I hope it is something that will be implemented soon. It definitely is annoying finding a Marwari or Chinco or whatever to breed with and its less than 25 or maxed out breeding.

I do agree with unboarded horses, or just horses not cared for not showing up either. They should only show up healthy and with enough energy and ready to breed. It definitely needs some work. The search function is something I want more detail in and something I prefer worked on sooner rather than later but thats just me.

As far as my unpopular opinions:

Before the new update, I rarely explored as it got boring but I an excited to have more of a reason to now

I think rescue accounts buying up horses and emptying the rescue only to resell them (especially those that do at a higher price without actually improving the horse) is just silly and not right. The ingame rescue is lowpriced for a reason.

Not really a just this game thing, but I always dislike TWH art where they are parked out. I know its their thing but for some reason it just never looks right and my gelding has never naturally done it. They have such pretty gaits that would be so much nicer for artwork.

I just have a minor annoyance when horses have long names like Insert Name Here 5* 2357 PS Greying WP EEEE BS something else or other and then when I breed to them the foal is Insert Name Here | 5* WP x Insert Name Here 5* 2357 PS Greying WP EEEE BS super long name and I am on mobile usually and sometimes erasing all that is SUCH a pain haha

I only have three unpopular opinions that I can think of, one of which Maki already touched on.

- I hate amber champagne. I do everything I can to avoid it, but sometimes I have to breed to amber champagne horses as they're some of my higher performers. I hate the color. I hate it so much. It's nothing personal, I just hate it.

- Second is the "rescue" accounts. Perhaps this opinion isn't that unpopular but my god am I sick of seeing the "dOnAtE tO mY rEsCuE" shouts followed by caps'd out begging for someone to buy the horses they've "rescued". The retirement option is free, and the market is flooded as it is. But, I s'pose that's the beauty of HoFa - to play however you want. I'll just never not think the "rescue" trend here is silly.

- I think players should have to be an active member for a few months to be able to use shouts. I like having my shouts on, as I snag a lot of market trades and sales that way, but I've never been more tempted to turn them off then here recently. Lots of begging for money, lots of "rescue" ads, lots of asking for donations. I've been blocking players as they pop up, it just seems like it's been out of pocket as of late.

I haven't been on this site for too long yet, but I have have some things that have bothered me, but nothing too bad with the exception of one thing. As Maki and reddrookk said, the "rescue" stables is my #1. You'll see this on pretty much every online horse game/site, and it is quite annoying. Most of the time, they're using it for their own personal gain (the buying and selling for a higher price without any improvements).

I too love having my shouts on, because I've gotten quite a lot of awesome things from the mentions. But to see it being spammed wit the rescue ADs, it makes me want to keep them off.

i feel like the thing about rare breeds needing to be level 25 to be put on stud/unboarded horses not being allowed at all are both things people have suggested as changes? could be wrong

i agree about the rescue accounts thing, it often sounds like an excuse to ask for freebies when all that's being done (housing unwanted horses) is already a function within the game itself that we aren't paying any extra fees for.

can't really relate about shouts, i've had them turned off since day 1 :p

while i do have a few i really love, i overall don't really like the Chincoteagues. it's a few different things together but i think the coats looking incredibly different in color from the same coats on every other horse throws me off the most. how black looks compared to other any other black horse is the most upsetting for me. i still like keeping them around for their public stud/brood value.

i kind of wish there wasn't two different "Manage" tabs, they're in different places but close enough that i constantly get them mixed up lol

it's really nice that public notes are saved after retirement now, it still bugs me that the entire history tab gets deleted though. i get that it's a lot of arguably unneccesary information but at least having the first history section about breedings and ownership remain after retirement would be nice. also the little custom/foundation/wild marker being replaced by "retired" is a little annoying to me, i would like to know what type of ancestors a horse had instead of guessing based on BS colors.

I agree so much about the player owned rescues. I turned off my shouts because the ads were so annoying. There's a rescue built into the game! And shouts are so swamped with begging messages that you rarely find anything useful anymore.

reddrookk I also dislike amber champagne! idk what it is about it, it's my least favorite color. I almost stopped breeding champagne because of it, but I didn't want to get rid of good horses because of one gene

everyone has such valid opinions, and I love them all very much! as maki said in the first reply (referencing chincos), I bought one of my chinos with 1-2 foal slots left. I did not know this until I bred him for one of my many projects going on. he's literally only six years old though, and my 20 year old chinco just has his last foal a few days ago.

I also agree on the level thing maki also mentioned. though from the other side of the spectrum. I only enjoy breeding on hofa-and that's fine, people play for different reasons! and so when I have 40 horses in transport, and 200 horses to care for, I simply can't train them all, especially with how busy school + work + home life is. and that's okay. I literally only get horses with set breeding to their levels, and then I move on. I've been trying to train or halter show more, but it's frustrating not having the mass buttons on a basic account to just "one and done" it.

I also HIGHLY agree with maki on horse names as well. I've seen horses with their whole gene strand in their name, and it's not necessarily needed. I want to make naming my horses pretty, so I use this:  . . . ➝ horse name | [ 1-5⭑][xtb][specific body marking][genes it carries + has]. by doing this, it's easier to enroll them into clubs. I was able to enroll so many horses just by having something they carry or have in their name. obviously you can use a different name format like others do. but I see no point in having ANY bit of gene strand in your horses name-it only saves you from clicking on the horse if you want x genes.

and very short here, but amber champagne is literally so gross 😭 I also think that, regarding the andys, their mane colors are OFF. I bred a pal andy and it had a literal mane and tail, when the other horse breeds have a pal coat but not yellow mane and tail. I don't know if it's irl breed related or what but I cringe when I see an andy.

and as everyone has been saying, I can totally get behind the rescue thing. I've seen so many people have a horse rescue so they take on horses but then complain when they're full and won't do deals (bogo, half off, free, 1k or less, etc). I complain that I'm full of horses, but I'm not a rescue, and can surrender or retire any horse I want any any point because...I don't care the way "rescues" have to care (their motto: never surrender-adopt instead/etc). and same with the people who willingly adopt all horses from the rescue centre. you willingly chose to get them and then you're asking for donations? I don't mind a few shouts, "hey all! selling rescues, really cheap! come get them!" but there's that, and, "pretty please please please donate to me. I'm broke and have $1!! $1 in case you didn't hear it the first time!!" I get it if you're new, but when you've played for 998483 years? nuh uh 🤷‍♀️

again, I am not hating on anyone that disagrees or doesn't like what I've said. you play the game how YOU want to play 🙏

The begging in general gets me. Even if they dont have a "rescue" it does something to me seeing people begging to buy their horses because they have 152 and ran out of money but are trying to sell 115 PS level 1 crossbreed mutts that no one wants. Guys lets talk about this. I am more than willing to help people learn but when you keep setting yourself up like that, admit you messed up and want some help and stop constantly begging for people to buy your horses.

Thats why I had horse transfer shut off for a while because players like that would send me random horses they didnt want. I would ask if it was a mistake and send it back if it was but a lot of times they just had no room and I dont know if it was because at the time I was a welcome wagon member when it was still a thing or what. I would report them but it was so tedious I shut transfers off for a while. Play the game how you want but then dont make that everyone elses problem.

I get you on the young horses with all or most of their breedings slots maxed too. Like maybe if its for a campaign or colors or something but otherwise I just cannot breed my horses until older and higher levels for better quality. I dont buy too many limited breedings horses but I try to remember to check cuz I definitely dont want a 6 year old horse with no breedings left haha

I have no idea if this is actually an unpopular opinion to hold or if it just doesn't come up very often but...

I... kind of wish people wouldn't rename my horses when they buy them? I mean, I get it when it's something generic like "New Horse" or "Mare Name X Stallion Name Foal", and I also understand adding/removing elements of the name like BS or color or stars, but- I dunno, changing it entirely slightly bugs me. Partly because the names help me keep track of bloodlines - I have a very formulaic method for naming my non-foundies. It's not something I'm going to go yell at people about, but it does make me sigh just a little bit. And I've (for a while now) been coping with the bloodline aspect of it by simply never selling or studding my foundies, and not breeding with outside horses, so that if I really feel I need to, I can always trace my horses back to the very first horses in their line - horses that are guaranteed not to have had their names changed.

Now, the opinion I have that I'm definitely sure is unpopular to hold, based on what I've been seeing people post about recently: I don't actually care if people brand my horses that I've left unbranded. It does feel vaguely rude, I guess? But in an abstract way, that doesn't feel like it really affects me. I use my brand as... something of a quality marker? I don't brand my entire herd, just ones that fulfill certain conditions. (First, it has to be a horse that I've bred - so no foundies, wilds, or purchased horses. Then, Appaloosas have to be all green stats and either snowcap, varnish blanket, or blanket. Any other breed, at the moment, just has to be home-bred and all green stats.)

----------

----------

...Because, apparently, heaven forbid I do anything that's not complicated.

I cannot stand the "rescue" accounts.  They're cheesy, gaudy, and gimmicky in the worst ways.  The whole begging for money and donations thing is just frustrating to those of use who actually PLAY the game the way it's meant to be played.

Though I will say, it seems like the opinion of player-made rescue accounts is less of an unpopular opinion and more of a popular one than previously thought.

- Rescue accounts. They do my head in. It's all I see in the shouts and I get them private messaging me, either wanting me to purchase their horses or them wanting to "rescue" mine.
- People that purchase horses just to retire them. It's incredibly frustrating, especially when they purchase horses that I've worked really hard on / aren't even three years old yet.
