Starberry's Calculators

Hiya! I see forums posted for some old spreadsheets that are no longer available to new players without tracking down a user with their own copy. As such, I developed one for my personal use and decided to share it. Currently it is only set up for Breed Standards, but I hope to update it in the future.

Features:

Tutorial: You will need to use this.

Manual Calculator and Tracker: For use when you don't know any ideal breed standards yet. Includes a quick min/max BS score calculator for a foal and a table to track new breed standards.

Breed Standard Reporting: A template is included for you to fill for each ideal breed standard you discover. These details will then be included in calculations.

Crossbred and Purebred Masterlists: Used in various formulas and dropdowns. More info in the tutorial should you need to add to it, but currently completed up to the Cobblestan's release. Does not include campaigns, but you're welcome to add your own.

Master Stable: Log all your horses here. Currently only BS is active, but I am working to update someday to make use of the personality, PS, and skill columns.

Pairing Pro: The feature presentation. Allows you to compare all eligible bachelor(ette)s in your master stable to your ‘active’ horse. Options for pure or crossbreeding. Includes maximum number of each rating (E/G/F/P) as well as probability of each rating, provided you have filled out the ideal breed standard for the foal's breed. It also includes the simple min/max values for the foal like with the manual calculator, so you can use this for breeds that you are still discovering. There is also a lethal FrFr flag for a possibly lethal combination.

NEW! Genetics: Gene tracking has been added to the Master Stable and Pairing Pro. Version 2 of the sheet has this added functionality, as well as other various improvements (see my comment in the thread).

You will need to make yourself a copy to use it. If there are any mistakes I've made, please let me know!

Sometimes the Google Drawings gradients used on the Pairing Pro headers move around. They should not get in the way and can typically be left in their weird spots, but if it annoys you, just refresh the page to fix it; no need to awkwardly drag it back into its spot. If it really, really annoys you, you can delete those drawings altogether.

V1 Sheet here. - This will be deleted soon.

V2 Sheet here.

Phew! That's a proper spreadsheet :)

I've been keeping notes on a very basic note taking app to keep track of my horses and breed standards. I might give this a go at some point. I kinda doubt that I will have the patience to rewrite all of my horses' conformations down again, haha. Either way, thanks for sharing!

Thanks haha. I got a little hyperfixated on it for a while. I'm free now.

Pro-tip: Herd management (Horses - Manage) is your best friend. There's a little yellow download tab beside the mass actions button which will download an Excel sheet for you of ALL your horses stats. Perfect copy and paste material, especially as my form is in the same order. You don't need an upgraded account to do this, and you can import it to Google Sheets directly.

This is so useful! I've been wanting to do this for a while but I just didn't have the time, tysm!!
New little question, will genes be included some time in the future?

Oh why didn't I think of that? I'll add it to the to do list. It will be a while though as I'm not in the right brain set to work on the sheet these days.

Fixed an error in the Cross Registry tab cell B18 where a stray space behind ‘American Paint’ caused crossbreeds to populate on the Pairing Pro tab as ‘crossbreed’ instead of ‘Pintaloosa’.

If you are using a copy this sheet, you can just navigate to that cell and backspace the extra space; no need to re-copy everything.

Version 2 is here!

New Calculator: 🧪GENETICS

As requested, and as discovered necessary by me now that I've started breeding colour into my lines, genes have been added in.

What this includes:

  • A full gene entry section on the Master Stable and result section in the Pairing Pro
  • FrFr flag for potentially lethal combos (while this existed before, the logic has been adjusted to pull from genes rather than require you fill in a checkbox)
  • Flags for rare gene possibilities, with different flags for homozygous (same) and heterozygous (mixed) combinations
  • Probability % of each gene combo in your foal

What this does not include:

  • Hidden genes
    • (I simply don't know enough about these. If you know more about things like dada, please feel free to let me know!)
  • Mutations
  • Non-gene-linked markings (ex. Blaze)
  • Descriptive names
  • Gene descriptions (Please use HoFa's Wiki [here])

UPDATED Tutorial:

  • Escaping images have now been anchored and will stay in their designated zones
  • Various small adjustments added to existing sections to reflect new changes
  • Two sections added: Genetics and Miscellaneous Tips
    • Miscellaneous Tips covers Google Sheets information such as shortcuts, navigation, and safe filtering

UPDATED Pairing Pro:

  • Improved navigation:
    • Quick links have been added to the top row to quickly switch between BS and Genetics views
    • A blank column has been added between the views to allow shortcut keys also be used to move around the sheet
  • Added sections:
    • Genetics
    • BS: Likelihood of 6E
    • BS: Minimum BV
    • BS: Maximum BV

NEW TAB All Breed Names:

  • Added a quick reference tab with all the breed names (crossbreed, pure) to use when creating a new Completed BS Template, rather than requiring you to unhide a locked column in the Master Stable

I may start playing around with the sheet again. Now that we have genetics as suggested by @Whiteclaww, does anyone have further preferences for the next version? If no replies, I'll just go with my heart's desire in the heat of the moment. Also, if anyone is using the sheet, feedback is always welcome! :)

Here are some things I have in mind:

  • In-breeding tracker
    • 3 gens max; only as visible on the pedigree. Beyond that I'd consider linebreeding and acceptable.
    • This will be labour intensive to set up on the user's end, especially if you have a lot of horses. As far as I know, there isn't a way to get horse pedigrees as a document otherwise. I should be able to automate some things once there is a baseline horse list for the sheets to pull from.
    • I'm thinking of setting a small flag on the Pairing Pro tab, similar to ☠️ lethal flag, a data-entry tab either in or outside (and pulling from) the Master Stable, and a pedigree retrieval tab for horses with a pedigree entered.
  • Skills and stats
    • I have decided not to add this to the Master Stable, as the values change constantly unless the horse is on ice. It would be incredibly overwhelming to have to update the Master Stable so frequently.
    • This would be added to either a new tab or the Manual Calculator tab.
  • DaDa Dada dada
    • Since this is a hidden gene, it would just be an aid for manual tracking. Perhaps this would be part of the inbreeding/pedigree project.
  • Written colour descriptions for combo possibilities

The inbreeding tracker feels like a great idea! I know some people use it as a criteria to buy horses.

For skills and stats… it's totally understandable. Maybe Training bonus might be interesting to some people? It doesn't vary but people might be interested in it.

Dapples and tiger eye work the same way (hidden genes)! I'm still unsure how most people name those, for dapples I think “Da” is the most popular, but I've seen people mark their dappled horses as “DaDa” and others as “dada”. Tiger eye is much more “niche”, people mark them as “Te” or “Tr”, I'm still unsure which one is the most popular one.

I personally have a couple questions:

For the Cross Registry, how does this work with crossbreeds that are 75%/50%? For example Sugarbush, Pintabians.
Other question regarding Cross Registry, how does it work for breeds like the Kiger horse? (50/25/25)

𖢥 BUG FIX!!

Column R: Likelihood of 6E: Pairing Pro tab

Fixed a critical oversight (oops!) where 6E chance cell was populating incorrectly for a foal with a 0% chance. This has been fixed. If you are using the sheet already and comfortable doing so, double click into cell R8, replace the formula with the following and then press Shift + Ctrl + down, followed by Ctrl + D to populate the formula to the entire column below. Otherwise, if you are starting fresh, the V2 link will have the amended formula. If you're not comfortable editing formulas, but don't want to transfer data to a whole new sheet, you can DM me and share your sheet with me and I can make the change for you.

=IF($K8="", "",
 IF(OR(V8="?", AB8="?", AH8="?", AN8="?", AT8="?", AZ8="?"), "?",
   IF(OR(V8=0, AB8=0, AH8=0, AN8=0, AT8=0, AZ8=0), 0,
     (V8+AB8+AH8+AN8+AT8+AZ8) / 6
   )
 )
)

@Whiteclaww

Do you mean the TB the foal would earn from the parents? I could certainly add it to the manual calculator. Since it changes so often as the parents level and is an easy calculation, I left it out. But I know that math isn't everyone's strong area, so I could add a section for that.

My understanding of dapples is DaDa is no dapple, Dada is dapple carrier, and dada is dappled, which was discovered after a bug causing the hidden gene to be visible for a short while. I recently did a bit of a dive on that one after getting a surprise dapple in my ma grading project, so in the time since I originally started this calculator I know a bit more about them. So fortunately for my brain that works the same as the other genetics regarding passing on if you have confirmed the gene, but I will do it a little differently than the other genes because it has that huge unknown factor. I'll have to look more into Tiger eye, as I really know nothing about it.

Sadly the cross registry doesn't have functions yet beyond 50/50, but I think that might be the next update I do seeing as so many campaigns are running more complex splits nowadays. I won't be adding any campaign lines myself because there are so many, but I can set up formulas to support that. I might have to bundle that with the pedigree/inbreed tracker because so many things would just flow better together. That will be a big update, phew!
