Appaloosa Redo & New Leopard Markings!

4/21/2022 3:03 pm

Well hello there everyone. Today we have a rather unusual mid-week surprise!

Appaloosa Re-Do

Spots! Spots! Spots! Our amazing artist, Solo, has been hard at work helping bring to life our vision of the new Appaloosas. Appaloosas were voted to be our first breed re-do of the year and now have an updated look! All current Appaloosas have been magically updated and will display their new art. We have quite a few more breeds to update and our second round of voting is now open! Our next set of breeds up for voting are American Paint Horse, Thoroughbred, Mustang, and Irish Draught.

Leopard Variations

We are seeing so many MANY more spots! TWO new variations of all of our leopard markings are now live and occurring in the foundation store. Leopard, snowcap, varnish roan, varnish blanket, fewspot, and blanket all have two new variations for you to discover. Rumor has it that Will may have a few special variation items coming to town…

Today's Scheduled Update

Per the usual with bugs and code, today's marketplace update will be postponed, potentially for a few weeks. With that being said, we are open to ideas or feedback on likes/dislikes of the current, and past, marketplaces. We welcome any feedback below!

We hope you all love the new Appaloosas and leopard markings!

Cheers,

Bedouin & Curly

Thank you!

Feedback/Ideas on the marketplace.

I did really like the way the horses had their own. Both the live auction and the for sale was a great way to look for just horses. The search is a great feature... but somehow it just lacks... something. Does good for looking for breeding, but not as pleasing-to-the-eye layout as the old horse market was. And maybe that's my crux with it; I was just spoiled by the old one. :D

The marketplace is quite nice, overall though. Personally, I'd like to see 'wanted' ads separated from 'for-sale' ads. Would make cruising just a little more streamlined. And perhaps, if not a separated section for horses, then the ability to sort would be greatly appreciated.

That's all I have I think.

...Actually... I think the largest thing I miss from the old marketplace, is indeed the live auction system. Would we be able to expand that to include items this time around? 😈

Feedback for the Marketplace: I like the old version. I like how horses were separated from ingot/bits trades and item trades. I also like the live auction format for the horses as we have a set-price sale option on our horse's page and have a search option for that already, the marketplace just seems redundant for non-auction sale horses.

I personally actually liked the old appy art, not that this one isn't gorgeous as well. I voted again for Thoroughbreds. I may be biased but 🤷‍♀️ mustangs as next top pick

^ What Maki said, that's exactly my situation... Voted for Thoroughbreds first, hoping Mustangs come after that! (if Thoroughbreds get re-done next)

I think the new art is nice and all.  But it just looks like a random grade horse with spots it doesn't look like an Appaloosa at all. Appaloosas are a breed, not just a color, they have a specific type. There is the heritage type which is an attempt to breed closer to the original type the Nez Perce bred, the spotted stock horse type, and the Arab/Saddlebred/Morgan influenced types. This art doesn't look like ANY of the types that have been historically associated with the breed. Except maybe the US Army's attempt to destroy the breed by forcing the Nez Perce to breed them to draft horses as part of Chief Joseph's surrender terms.
