When horses retire does their tack get deleted?

I've got some older horses that are getting close to retirement and they've got a lot of gem-embellished tack that I don't want to lose. Should I remove the tack when they get to age 20? Or does the tack automatically go back into your storage room when the game retires them?

It will automatically go back into your storage if there are uses left on it. If it's on its last use, it will disappear at the horse's retirement.
