๐ฆ Remembering Dolly Parton
Hello everyone,
Today's news post is not like our usual news. As many know Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80 after a reported brief fight against cancer.
Some of you may not know but I, Curly, was born and raised in western North Carolina and am very proud to call myself an Appalachian. Dolly was born and raised just over the NC/TN border from where I grew up. As a young girl I remember listening to Dolly's music, watching her achieve her superstar dreams, but most importantly I watched a proud Appalachian woman represent my region and heritage on the world stage.
Early in her career, Dolly dealt with folks who decided mocking her background was a way to break her down and minimize her success. However, she never allowed their attempted attacks to shake her. She dealt with folks with tact and grace while representing true Appalachian ideals in many ways.
- She wrote and sang songs about her appreciation of life here. I always loved her way of sharing Appalachian storytelling and experiences. One of my favorites is Coat of Many Colors.
- She donated her time and money to worthy causes. Most notably to myself, she helped families in my region during the devastating 2016 wildfires and after hurricane Helen.
- She stood by the LGBTQ+ community and is quoted stating everyone โshould be allowed to be how you are and who you are.โ A statement I deeply agree with.
- She valued education and built the Dolly Parton Imagination Library which gave books to children to increase literacy.
- She donated to many causes such as band uniforms, building hospitals, vaccine research and much more. She believed in doing good in the world where she could.
I invite you to learn more about the many, many, amazing things Dolly did in her lifetime. From a young girl in a 1-room cabin in the Appalachian mountains to the queen of country music, Dolly stayed true to herself.
I had the luck of meeting Dolly twice in my life, on the same day! At 10 years old I was at Dollywood with my father. Alone in the toy shop I was approached by a woman I remember being so dolled up and with the most amazing blonde hair. She talked to me about the toys I was holding and about myself. When I left the shop my father asked โDo you know who that was?โ I did not. โShe owns this place! Thatโs Dolly Parton!โ She got a good kick out of that. Later that day I ended up stumbling upon her again and I guess I left an impression since she did it to me again! Little olโ me must have been so excited to be at Dollywood I managed to forget I met the woman who owned it.
You may be wondering, why exactly is there a news post about this? Well, Iโve been told in life there will be a celebrity death that affects you the most and I have just discovered Dolly is mine. I am thankful to her for showing me that being myself, embracing my Appalachian roots, and always trying to do the right thing does pay off. She is someone who is worth learning about not because she was famous, but because she was the embodiment of true Appalachian ideals. Someone who offers help, not judgment. A person who loves thy neighbor and does what is needed to make sure they are ok. She kept true to herself which has given many the strength to do the same. In a world of darkness Dolly showed us you can be a light.
In lieu of flowers, the Parton family has asked donations be made to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Myself and Horse Fable have made a donation in honor of her legacy. Additionally, everyone active since August 1, 2026 has been sent Monarch Butterflies and various pink items to equip to their horses in celebration of Dolly's life. Lastly, I encourage you to consider ways you can bring a bit of light into our world. For myself, I have always worked toward volunteering in my community through food pantries and joining volunteer organizations.
May Dolly rest easy and enjoy singing in the heavens with her family and loving husband.

I cried a little when I heard yesterday. Miss Dolly was a class act, I can't think of another celebrity still with us who appears to be as kind and caring as her. It reminds me of when Fred Rogers passed, just a loss of light in the world. I hope she has been reunited with her husband Carl now, they truly loved one another.
I think I'll give Steel Magnolias a rewatch tonight in tribute. If anyone hasn't seen it, it's very good. Dolly is fantastic in it. But you will need your tissues!
I heard the news only 30 minutes after she was announced, we were in the car with family, and all of us were devastated when we heard the news
I got the news 5 minutes after she passed while I was at work. I have had the honor of visiting Nashville, Tennessee during which I got to experiance the Country Music Hall of Fame. Dolly was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999 and I enjoyed her exhibit alot. Currently living in the deep South I actually hope to move to Tennessee some day. Rest in peace Dolly, your the 3rd legend on my list that I love but has passed away in 2026. I hope you get to spend time with Ozzy and Man Hater up in Heaven.
Never got to meet her, r go to Dollywood, but she was one of my favorite singers, my mother came from the deep south, and she loved Dolly's music , Dolly will be missed by so many, R.I.P. Dolly.

Hearing her songs was the best thing I could ever do.
She is the reason I like country songs.
I was born during a recession but got to hear her songs anyways.
I loved seeing her on the TV.
And now it feels like there's lesser to like about the world.
I did write my own tribute song lyrics for Dolly, it ain't good but I love it.
May she rest in peace, where God can bring her back to Dean.
She deserves it after a long, fruitful career.

I absolutely adore Dolly. I am so deeply saddened by her loss, but hope that I can contribute to the world a fraction of what she has. May her legacy live on forever, and her work-- both her music AND the love she showed for others-- never be forgotten. ๐ฉท

I was barely up for 15 minutes, when I got the gmail about her passing from NYT. Listened to a lot of her music yesterday, might do so again today and watch some movies/TV shows she is in.
While I grew up in Ohio, I have kin down in Tennessee, thanks to my granny, my dad's mom. I know I visited Seiverville and Pigeon Forge, around her neck of the woods, but never got the chance to do Dollywood but with her passing, I hope to do so one day.
She grew up dirt poor and that actually means something. Some folks, tried to bully her, but she would just take their words, twist it around, to say her folks and the like, were very hard workin' people, just trying to make a livin'. Some folks, just cannot seem to wrap their head around lives like that. She always made sure to do things in a classy, tactful way. Never let people get her down.
RIP Dolly. Go see your husband and don't worry about Jolene, no more.
Go see your brother, your parents and whomever else you miss up there and have a grand ol' party. We miss you greatly down here, but we will make sure, your legacy carries on.
i honestly couldn't believe it, it's hard to process that it's a world going on without her. she's one of those few celebrities who both knew she had plenty to give and never stopping giving. i remember going to Dollywood and i hope to go back someday, make some memories without my dad being annoyed at everything lmao. and i remember watching Steel Magnolias as a kid, maybe i was a bit too young to understand something that heartbreaking but a lot from that movie has stuck with me all these years.

Rest well Dolly. Cancer sucks. It took my grandma too. May you be laughing in heaven together, two strong and beautiful women. Both of my little girls get books from the Imagination Library. It is such an incredible program. Thank you HoFa for contributing to more books in the hands of children. Dolly was an inspiration. And someone we should all strive to be more like.
