So, I guess, it depends on WHAT you wish to do. Early on, you can rescue some horses, people toss in there, to help you get started, or peruse auctions to find cheap/quality bred horses and or wilds.

Foundation horses, can be tricky depending on how good the game can be. Same with Custom created horses.

You can use this guide here my cousin made, to help you keep bits on hand and not struggle.

You can try to see if your horse would do well in a Halter show, Discipline show, or perhaps, better suited for running Careers, as Careers are free, cost you no bits and allow you to gain bits, every half an hour, in real life time. I would suggest, if the horse has low ps/bs and stars, to shunt into Careers, to help out.

Most veteran players, use 1 or 2* horses in careers. 3* you could try to Discipline or Halter, depending on the breed/how popular the shows are, same with 4 and 5* as I own a few 5* that do poorly in Halter due to how many enter, so I shove them over to Disciplines instead and vice versa.

There is a lot to do, but I would suggest, slowly build yourself up, have bits on hand, before fully going nuts and expanding, so you have enough bits stocked up and not run into losing too many bits.
