Player levels?

Im just wondering if player levels are supposed to go up automatically or if theres a way we are supposed to initiate it? My level is showing (604/600) and Im still fairly new and wondering if theres something I need to do to bump it up? Much appreciated
This question is asked a lot, especially recently. Right now that is as high as they go. There will be more added in the future
