Uploading images

Hey everybody (and especially the artists on this site),
How do you upload an image without it “blowing up." This lil pixel horse in my signiture is only supposed to be 120ish by 120ish px. Is it because im uploading from my iPad? Using the wrong file type?
I'll at least note for ya and someone else could also chime in too. As of late, imgur overall has NOT been working for players using imagery. I think people use img.bb ? I am not 100% sure on this front but imgur hasn't been working with horsefable for a while now and I use something else entirely for my tags I bought from other players.
