Elvish Warhorse Art!

Hello Elvish Warhorse lovers!! Congrats everyone on creating a new crossbreed! New art is set to come your way but first, we need to start the process.

I will work with you all in this forum to get specifics about what you want in your breed.  Our workflow will be:

  1. Campaign contributors and club members post reference images. Reference images can be to pick a pose, mane/tail type, conformation-specifics etc. When you post a photo let me know what you like the most in the photo. NOTE: Poses, conformation etc. have some limitations such as no rearing poses and requests must be true to life and make sense for the breed cross %. Ex. We won't do a pony-sized base for a Clydesdale x Perch cross, that would be quite odd.

  2. After submitting ref photo submissions, I will look through and make a master list of suggestions for review. At this time, you all can chat about what you want to see specifically. Ex. Morgans have a bridle path because that was a highly requested option and Irish Cobs have tons of hair because people valued that the most. NOTE: Should there be any aspect that isn't fully agreed upon I will present the best options based on Thunderbolts ability with input from the club president.

  3. Using the final list of requirements, Thunderbolt will begin the greyscale process and sketches of the pose will be posted here. With this, feel free to be a bit picky, add suggestions, and the club may also make large changes if all are agreeable. Ex. Turns out you all don't like the head turned toward the viewer, you'd like it facing forward.

  4. Based on feedback, a second draft will be posted to confirm that everyone likes the base. At this time, no major changes can occur but small or minor changes can occur. Ex. You want the eye facing upward vs. forward.

  5. Once the second draft is approved a greyscale will be completed and we will move into the coloring phase.

  6. Once all the coloring is done, Bedouin and I will work on the back end to make the breed a reality. This involves a bit of code and inputting.

  7. Bask in the glory of completing a crossbreed campaign and ogle at those beautiful ponies.

Note, with the backlog of campaigns and upcoming breed redos we expect sketch and greyscale phases to take up to 4 months. Campaigns are currently at the top of our to-do list for the next bases and will be added to our queue alongside the next breed redos.

We are in phase 2. Please post feedback on sketches by March 11th.

Alrighty! finally have a moment to sit down and put my thoughts together.

Head: I think B is the better option for marking visibility as stated by a few others. Honestly I wish we could have both xD A just looks so regal.

I'd imagined the neck to be more upright (just a bit- I still want that gorgeous forelock flowing over the face) and the mane a bit longer/thicker.

I'd like the far back leg to be forward of the near back leg- with the hoof slightly off the ground (this is the one I'm iffy about as I'm having trouble picturing it correctly in my head- I think the leg placement will look alright that way though. feel free to mess with the back leg placements further if my suggestion looks too off)

I'd like the hooves to be a bit bigger (feathering is perfect though!)

everything else is perfect!! I can't get over how amazing the tail looks >.< exactly what I meant by wavy!

Okay! I think I got it.
- head in โ€œBโ€ position
- neck a bit more raised

- thicker, longer mane

- bigger hooves

- switch the back legs position, with right back leg slightly off the ground.
There's one possible problem with the back legs - switching the order the two back legs (without switching the position of the front legs too) will, if I'm correct, put the horse in a cross-canter position instead of a sort of a bucking canter stride.

At the same time I agree, the right hind leg being in front of the left hind will probably make the pose with a turned head look way more natural. Would You like me to try and adjust the position of the front legs too?

Yes! If you think it's best to switch the front legs too go ahead :)

Hello!

I've applied the changes, the neck and head are slightly raised, the hooves are slightly bigger and the mane is made thicker and longer (it may not be readily visible, due to the flow of it - to uncover the neck and withers most of its upper part flows behind the horse, but I've made the visible strands longer). Lifting one of the hind legs was a bit tricky, I've tried a variety of poses and I think these two are the closest to Your description:

B1, with the right hind leg just off the ground

And B2, with the leg lifted higher and more forward.

B2 has the benefit of two legs being apart from each other, which will prevent them from blending together, but that makes it so it's lifted higher than in B1.

Also, alternatively we can leave the leg on the ground, which would give the horse a better purchase on the ground.

Let me know what You guys think - this it the second draft, so apart from the choice of the above options, You can still add suggestions for some minor corrections.

I personally love B2 just because it looks more dynamic imo, but also love A2!
