Gem Rarity?

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the relative rarity of certain gems over others - do we know if they all have an equally random chance of appearing in the mines, or are some more common than others? If I knew how to find this sort of data myself, I would be digging into it, but I haven't the first clue of how people actually do that.
They all have the same chance of appearing. As far as rarity, Amethyst, Onyx, Citrine, and Rose Quartz were added more recently to the game so there's less of them floating around compared to the others which have been around for years.
