Wild Horse Quest

Unsure if this has been answered before as I was unable to easily search the forum for previous posts abt it and the wiki had nothing.
I have a quest where I have to give a wild caught horse to the vet. My question is, will I lose the horse if I try to complete the quest the same way one loses items for other quests? Wouldn't really like to lose the horse if that's the case

All the quests that ask for a wild horse or a horse with a specific requirement, do not get taken. All the other quests asking for items and such DO get taken from you.
