G in horse names?

so, this is something i've been curious about for a while but always forgot to ask. i've noticed a few horses with things like 'G1' all of the way to 'G28' in their names, or reversed - '1G' to '28G'.
when i first saw these, i had assumed that they were maybe in relation to what generation the horse is from (first gen, second gen, twenty-eighth gen, etc) because that's something i'm familiar with coming across in other games similar to this. however, i've seen some of these horses with multiple '__G' or 'G__' in their names, and the lineages don't match up with my original assumption of what the G stands for.
so i'm a little confused lol - what do players usually use these for? does it have something to do with genetics, breed standard, or something along those lines?
I think its just for Gens, but it could be for Genes.

I also originally assumed that "G" in a horse's name meant what gen it was from, which IS sometimes the case. Other times, people will use letters to keep track of their breed lines. (Ex: Someone names all of their manchados "Mancho base 1A, 2B, 3C, 4D, etc.) Another reason could be that after 'Ee aa' in a horse's gene strand 'gg' comes right after.

As Vale mentioned, sometimes people use "G" in their horses' names to keep track of the Gg, gg, and gG genes. I'm not sure what it stands for though. ("Ee" is for Extension, "aa" or "ata" for agouti, "swsw" for Splash white, etc. ) I'm not exactly sure if the genetic letters stand for that stuff though.
yes, if it's not there to designate generation then it's likely meant to note the presence (or absence) of the gray gene.
another one is for BS, i use G for a "good" value so a sale horse of mine marked as 2E/3G/1F would have 2 excellents, 3 goods, and 1 fair.

ahh alright! i assumed it had to do with either genetics or breed standard, but i was never quite sure until now. it makes total sense after reading y'all's replies - just depends more on the player's naming priority than it being a set thing. thanks, everybody! ^^
It could also be in relation to crossbreed campaigns. It helps those of us who are trying to keep up with what generation horses can be entered into, since each generation has specific stats that are required. I personally use the "G_" method on my horses cause it helps me keep track of who is who without having to go into each horse's individual page.
It all makes sense till ya get to G28 😅 28th generation? Thats a lot to keep track of
oof i keep forgetting to check my forums 😭
@Acoustic; oh, absolutely! i personally track a horse's generation (purebred project or for crossbred campaigns) in its name myself, so it makes total sense.
@Maki; yeah, honestly i have no idea what G28 would mean in that instance - i just recall i saw a horse with that number at one point and i was... very surprised LOL.
in hindsight, i realize i probably should've shown an example horse that i found when i first made this post, but honestly with everyone's responses it seems like what i'm specifically referring to might not be as commonplace as i thought 😅. it's not my horse, but it's an example of what i'm referring to with G's in the name:
haha yeah, i assumed it may have related to generations too but i'm not sure. i'm guessing that it's mostly likely something that the player might be tracking for a personal project, which honestly more power to them if that's the case ^^
