okay, i need HELP. for careers, you have choices to put your horse in for work. do all careers make the same money? whats the best type of horse/personality for each career? give me ALL the details!
The wiki will answer a lot of questions for you but feel free to ask if you still have questions after reading it over
i read it but im still kinda confused
Okay. So. I have been collecting a whole bunch of data about careers and (I might just be dumb) still haven't come to solid conclusions. However, here's the information I do have:
- A horse's personality will affect how much money it makes a given career, even if it is at the same tier level in them all. However, it isn't usually a huge difference - the difference between the "best" and "worst" career for a horse, looking at my 'median amount earned' data, is rarely over 10 bits
- As an example, suppose we have a horse with CANA personality, and career stats such that no matter what career we assign it, it will be Beginner level. Keeping in mind that I am only one person and the only data I have is my own, here's what I've observed
- In Education: median earnings of $16, observed range of 15-17
- In Therapy: median earnings of $13, observed range of 11-15
- In Working Draft: median earnings of $12.5, observed range of 10-15
- In Lesson: median earnings of $15.5, observed range of 14-17
- In Model Horse: median earnings of $13.5, observed range of 12-15
- If we were considering money only, Education would be the place to put it, or perhaps Lesson. But the difference between highest and lowest median earnings is only $3.5, and the difference between highest and lowest earnings seen at all is $7
- As an example, suppose we have a horse with CANA personality, and career stats such that no matter what career we assign it, it will be Beginner level. Keeping in mind that I am only one person and the only data I have is my own, here's what I've observed
- A horse's personality will not affect its earnings for level points, or career skill gains. That's only dependent on its career tier.
- Assuming your horse is boarded at home, and that you're doing all the care options (feed, drink, groom), no matter what career you choose and no matter what tier your horse is in, if you do the career at least twice you will make a profit. (The absolute least I've seen a horse make is 8 bits, do the career twice you'll get 16, and that'll cover all the care costs)
Personally, I don't stress about the money aspect too much at the moment, and just assign my horses purely based on their career stats - whichever career has the highest total, so that they'll be the closest to moving to the next higher tier.
It's not currently known (except, presumably, by staff/coders) what the best personalities are for each career - and if any players have figured it out they haven't shared that information anywhere obvious. I'm trying to work it out myself but, well, with so many personality combinations it'll take a while. I have a thread here that contains a calculator for assigning horses to careers based on career stats and/or PS, as well as (a separate sheet with) my collection of data regarding career/personality combos. It has a bit of commentary explaining the intended use cases and quirks of the sheets, but if you want links to them directly they are Calculator and Tracker. (You may want to make copies of these if you find them useful - they do have editing allowed so people can use them to calculate stuff quickly, but I do use the Tracker one frequently and don't want to mess anyone else up while I'm doing so)

...Because, apparently, heaven forbid I do anything that's not complicated.
...er. Or, in short:
Your horse will earn different amounts of money in different careers, depending on its personality, but I'd argue that it isn't usually enough to worry about unless you're running short on cash in general.
