upgrade question

can other people buy upgrades for someone? say i have x amount of ingots can i trade them for an upgrade?
You can buy upgrades with ingots yourself instead of needing to trade them, which isnt possible by the way. Only bronze is available ingots however, the other upgrades have to be bought with real money.
