Crossbreed/grade horses update.

How annoying is it that you can't really put crossbreeds or grades in without loads of work? With grades you can't even put them in halter. I really want to collect grade Marwari, but I can't level them up that quick without halter shows. There's many things I can complain about with grade horses. Like when I'm trying to find grade horses and breed them.. but on the stud/brood market you can't find them easily. And the biggest reason for that is nobody wants to bother trying to raise a grades levels.
Crossbreeds too. I registered a crossbreed and I still can't do halter shows! What's the deal!? Plz make a "grade horse" or "crossbreed" club for us grade breeders (you need crossbreeds to make a grade). I really want some way to make graded horses and crossbreed more valuable, and I want to make the graded version of what I'm collecting. Plz make a "grade (insert any breed)" on the stud/brood market.

My appolagies if this is coming in the next few updates.

Use the search feature (it's the magnifying glass, top right). There you can search for at-stud and at-sale for grades and purebreds or only one or the other, etc.

Of course, there are other options for you. You can use an already leveled pureblood to get a grade. With a strong TB, the foal won't be slowed down as much on levels, because it'll already be ready to tackle competitions at a much higher level.

But I don't understand when you say that you need crossbreeds to make a grade? Actually, you need purebreds to breed back to grade status. You can use whatever horse has the gene you want, and then breed toward purebred-grade status.

I did hear a rumor that 'made the grade' club does halter shows... I have no idea if that's true.

And as for registered crossbreeds, I have no problem getting even my two and one star crossbreeds to in the 40 levels by the time they turn 2 years. So... I don't know what your exact issue is there either?

Although, that said, when I do work with my non-registrable crossbreeds, I do have to wait until they're 2 to do much with them. But with their lineage, I have no problem boosting them into the triple digits by the time their 18.

Take a look.

This is my latest baby: https://horsefable.com/horse/1642314

And she'll have no problem looking like this one: https://horsefable.com/horse/1372591

And all that, without a single halter show. It's all about planning and careful preperation. If you set yourself up properly, it only takes two or three generations to get yourself into the good area and that with rather ugly and poor foundation stock.

Can you elaborate further? Maybe I'm missing something...

@Oaken fields what's the best way to level up horses (even if they can be registered, I really wanna level them up fast)? Is it only halter shows?

Anything you do with horses goes to leveling them. Halters, training, discipline shows, careers.

Also, I always register my grades to Made the Grade and still have never been able to enter in halter shows. Its annoying to not be able to do anything with them and crosses until 2, but I breed quality horses so leveling them isnt hard at all

Ah, Thank you Maki, rumors are just that, rumors, so it's good to hear that the particular club in question, doesn't do halters then.

@Rosettesidk It generally comes down to where they are, in realtion to stars and discipline areas (level and tier). If they're below three stars, they'll make most levels in the career, until they hit at least regional, tier 1 area, then as long as they place well, discipline is usually the way to go. Although I find my foundations and customs doing best in careers for life.

Three stars can sometimes do better in halters until at least state. I also find that these generally do better until at least national or international levels and even find them doing best in halters for their lifetime.

Four and five stars, it's usually halters until elite level. And sometime halters for their lifetime.

It often comes down to competition in discipline shows. So I look at their history daily to see if 'yesterdays' competition scores beat-out or lose-to their last halter shows and, or their careers. And so forth...

I also find that most of my horses will alternate between two areas for their lifetime, all dependant on the competition and their training at any given week or day. As they train-up, they'll out-pace some of their competitors while dealing with others, but as many horses have different TB and different training earnings and different PS and different training schedules, eh... and also different experience (but this one doesn't interact in any work detail), it's rare for a horse to deal the exact same competition throughout their lifetimes. Their horses will either out-pace yours or your horse will out-pace theirs, at some point and to some degree.

So watching the histories daily and accomadating for where they earn best experience daily, does make all the difference. This also benefits best when you have time and when you have a smaller herd of horses.

Perhaps somebody has better experience and can direct you differently, but that's my technique and it's worked for me.

There's no quick way to get anywhere in this game, unless you count purchasing an already high TB foal from somewhere and wait until high levels to breed anything. And they're out there, you just have to take the time to look.😄

And, just in case I'm not particularly clear.

"what's the best way to level up horses (even if they can be registered, I really wanna level them up fast)? Is it only halter shows?"

Registered, usually halters. Unregistered, usually disciplines if they're higher PS (at least 1000 or more pts) and careers otherwise. Even with careers, you can usually reach an acceptable ~50 by the time they're 18 years. Two of these level 50 types will give you a TB of 10 for the succeeding generation. That is 'your' beginning of success (all of ours). Reach that point and the next generation shouldn't be an issue, just about regardless of if it can be registered or not.
