How do dapples work?

How do you breed dapples onto your horses? Are dapples a hidden ressesive gene? How do you tell, in the horses genes, if they have dapples or not? I have a warlander with dapples and I would like to breed the dapples onto more of my warlanders. He's had three foals, none with dapples. This is the horse. Can anyone give me some advice?
Dapples is a hidden recessive gene. I think it's dada in the gene list when it did show (that was a fixed bug). So the only way to know now is breed to suspected carriers together a few times to see if they throw a dapple foal or always breed a dapple shower to dapple shower.
