What different color stars mean?

So I've seen several around the game. Yellow, blue, purple, grey. Yellow seem to be the 'standard' ones, blue I think are on frozen horses only. What do purple and greyed out stars mean?
Yellow means registered in a breed registry.
Silver can mean either a grade horse, not in a club nor in a breed registry.
Crossbreeds are Purple.
Blue means active campaign.
How can crossbreeds get stars though? They aren't purebred, so there's no breed standard they can adhere to, right? Or stars aren't tied to breed standard?
There is officially recognized crosses, for example, quarter paints, friesdales, warlanders etc etc.
Ok, thank you! I thought crossbreed were only horses that say "crossbreed" and don't qualify to be an actual breed
