Idea: Charms & Trinkets to Increase Explore Chances

StillOaksFarm [Platinum || 72 posts] on 1/10/2023 9:30 am

So lately I'm seeing lots of wild horses but haven't picked up any food to help me catch them so that got me thinking...

What if the game offered charms or trinkets that would be able to be purchased for ingots and each one provided a small boost (5%-ish) to your chances of a specific explore pop up. Only one charm could be "active" on your account at a time so you can't just buy them all and get a bunch of bonuses.

For example:

Horsehair trinket: increase chance of wild horse encounters

Rainbow charm: increase chance of dye appearing

Alfalfa trinket: increase chance of food appearing

Raven feather trinket: increase chance of familiar/animal appearing

I do think this is a really cool idea, but I'm a little hesitant about increasing wild horse encounters and I would definitely want the boost to be on a time limit. Personally, I already see plenty of wild horses, and I would be concerned about an additional flood to the market of wild 4 and 5 star horses.

I'd be on board. I have discussed this with my cousin, Maki, off game that I can run into numerous wild horses but have yet for what it's worth found much in the way of treats or any item for said wild horses that isn't a lasso or whistle.

I think I have tried two or three times back in December ish, to capture wilds with whatever items I had left over ((so think like oats, alfalfa, clover but nothing more)) and none of it worked, so I stopped trying. Just recently, I got lucky with a mare by drowning her in pats as at first pats, nor lasso nor whistle worked but she didn't run off yet.

At the moment, I only have access to mobile phone and steam deck to go on my exploring sprees like I used to but it's more doable for me on my pc though it's down for repairs. When I have tried exploring, I probably went 30+ minutes with no such luck finding ANY treat item. Sure I could buy them but that's a last minute resort that I wish to avoid, so I'd definitely would be on board with this.

No support.

The wild horses are special, they all are at least 4 stars and came with nice stats that can improve your breeding and showing herds. All of my wilds are geldings and sterilezed mares, and they are perfect as showing horses. Some are breeders and one mare that i used already gave me a 5 stars filly. They are meant to be difficult and hard to catch.

There's the technical aspect of more horses around the server. Some weeks ago, people are discussion that HOFA server was slower because many horses eating the server out (one of the reasons). It is very easy to have many horses in your stables. Fundation house have many bad horses but you still can have them around. Rescue can have pretty horses that might suprise you in a good way, and If you have enough money, the market can be pretty fun too.

I get you. For me, nowdays i don't have many wild horses showing, neither enough equipments to get them too. But it is random factors. You can use all of your equipments to get the horse, use all of your energy and still not get them. Meanwhile there's gonna be horses that with petting and one, two or three clicks they are yours. Having too many perks to get them easyly can destroy your gratification when your favourite type of horse appears and you finnaly can get them.

Honestly? I love this idea. The number of increased chance would have to be adjusted small enough that you see/get items just a smidge more, but not more to the point it's too much. There are other games where you can buy an item to increase an explore chance, and it's not necessarily game breaking or a bad thing.

Even if this was just item ones. I honestly feel like I don't find enough items/dyes to make it worth clicking through for hours on end. I desperately need dyes, but even months into it with buying off of other players in bulk, I do not have enough to dye all my tack pieces for equipping to do my herds in the colors I want. So I just go with plain, boring, generic white.

I also wouldn't be opposed to the piece having a limit per say. That way you can't just keep farming after one purchase. So say, each has 35/35 uses, after you collect 35 of that item it's increasing, it is used up and you'd have to purchase another. The conversion to cost and worth would need to be looked at, but I feel like for use sake and reoccuring game income sake this would make the most sense.

Support!  But only for the increased item chance.  I see plenty of Wilds but never enough items.

I hear you all, no boost to wild horses (I wasn't sure if it was just me seeing lots of wilds with few items or a general thing across the board). And I love the idea of a way to limit it so it's not a forever item. I think Shokubeni's idea of a max number of items to pick up (35 dyes, 35 capture/food items, 35 seasonal items, etc) is really great! A time-based limit might not seem worth it for users who can't log in for more than a few minutes every day but with a set number of items they might get picked up by one user in a day where it takes another user a week but both get the same number of items from the boost and the same value for the price of the boost (exact item amount/cost tbd).

Thank you all for the great feedback!

Support! I really like the idea of a find limit rather than a time limit.

I am also curious since so many people are saying they are getting way more wild horse encounters than item encounters - is something up with the wild horse encounter rate? I am also getting a lot of horse encounters, but can't even catch them because I hardly ever come across treat items. I was under the impression that wild horses are supposed to be a relatively rare encounter, but that doesn't seem to be a lot of people's experience.

Yeah, I was under the impression the wild horse encounter rate would be much lower, but it's not uncommon for me to see 3-5 of them on an average day of play. There's certainly much more wild horse encounters than food item encounters, in my experience.

Yeah, it feels that way to me too. I haven't seen a 3* wild in a while but mostly 4*s with a few 5*s tossed in but in all honesty, I feel dyes/treats randomized button got switched with the wilds and it's just down right ridiculous.

All I do at the moment, is log in, make shows, maaaaybe deposit money if need be. Check news if there is any, check out forums and log off. In that short time span, I am almost always finding a wild horse, usually even right when I log in too before I do anything and rarely anything else. Lately I have been checking out auctions/sales and maybe buying a horse or two but still, I can find more wilds than anything else and as much as I want to find the newest dyes, I really don't want to search for hours on end and get nothing worth while that isn't a wild, lasso or whistle.

Support the dye/food/familiar encounter boost items!

Wild encounters are common enough so I don't think it would be necessary to have a boost for that but I also do *not* hope to see the encounter rate lowered because iirc there is a possibility that some genes will end up being exclusive to wild horses.
