Design a White Marking #1!

Curly [Admin || 568 posts] on 12/06/2021 10:39 am

Hello everyone! I am working on making more white marking variations of several breeds and need a bit of help. Instead of scrolling around the web or making up my own markings, I figured I'd open up the opportunity for you all to design a white marking.

What is this?

I usually look at real-life horses for inspiration for our marking variations. Instead of doing so, I'd love to see white markings you all make to help inspire new white markings I will be adding.

How does this work?

Right now I am working on adding new leopard variations for all breeds with the Lp gene. You may submit a marking you have designed for:

- Blanket

- Varnish Blanket

- Snowcap

- Varnish Roan

- Leopard

- Fewspot

How do I submit?

  • You may submit 1 design per white marking listed aboveThis totals to 6 possible marking submissions.
  • These designs must be 100% yours and made either digitally or traditionally. Photos are not allowed.
  • Any lineart, brushes, or greyscales used must be credited in the forum post, even if they specify credit is not needed.
  • Only art that is allowed to be used outside of its original source may be posted.
  • Use and alteration of Horse Fable images are allowed only for use in this contest.

To submit, upload your design to a photo-sharing website and link the image here or simply copy/paste it into the text box. Any non-credited images will be removed. By submitting to the contest you agree to allow us to use the marking as inspiration exactly as-is or with adjustments.

What do I win?

Winners will be chosen on December 20th at 12 PM EST/game time with a sneak peek of what the marking will look like. Note, since there are six markings and several breeds with the markings, adding them in-game may take up to 1 month depending on marking detail. Once the variations are added, winners will be given 1 mare and 1 stallion with the marking variation in the breed with the Lp gene of their choice excluding Irish Cobs and Tennessee Walking Horses.

I do want to enter in the other coat patterns. Thought I'd get these two out there and get the ball rolling.

Here's my last two entries!

Snowcap Variant

They're all done using ibisPaint X and the regular brushes and such that come with it (no downloaded brushes) also obviously as seen here the HoFa appaloosa has been used to showcase these markings.

Lines are by Darya, colored on Krita using brushes already on it - no downloaded brushes. It is a varnish roan/snowflake! Snowflake Variation

Winners have been chosen! Special thanks to everyone who took the time to enter and submit such wonderful designs! Each created marking that will be added in-game is inspired by the submissions received. Note, some adjustment may be made to markings compared to those as examples below. :)
