Estates

Your estate determines the capacity you can do different things around the game.

Starting upgrades:

Homeland

+10 acres

Lean-To

+2 horse stalls

Homemade Show Arena

+3 show creation

There are different categories of upgrades you can purchase from Construction.

  • Land Expansion - This increases the acres of your estate. Acres allow you to purchase other upgrades. Basic players max out at 150 acres and upgraded players max out at 1,000 - 1,250 acres depending on your upgrade tier.
  • Horse Stalls - The number of horses you can board at home is limited to the number of horse stalls your estate has.
  • Training Arenas - Training arenas add training capacity for different disciplines to your Training Center. These are only for upgraded players.
  • Show Arenas - Show arenas allow your estate to host more shows. Basic players are limited to 6 show creations while upgraded players can upgrade to 20 show creations.
  • Feed Storage - You can store feed on your estate to allow your horses boarded with you to automatically eat from there every night instead of needing to be manually fed.
  • Water Storage - Water acts the same as feed storage… but for water.
  • Employees - Employees make it easier to feed, water, and groom more than one horse at a time. Once purchased, a checkbox will appear in Herd Management that will allow you to mass care for your horses.

Getting Horses

You can get horses from various locations around the game.

  • Foundation Store - This is the perfect place to find horses with no lineage.
  • Rescue Center - Cheap horses can be found in abundance here. The perfect place to start out with better horses than in the Foundation Store for cheaper.
  • Horse Market - You can bid on horses for sale here.
  • Other Players - You can find horses for sale in other players’ sales pens.

Boarding

In order to do anything in the game, a horse needs to be boarded. Unboarded horses will appear in your Transport tab on your Stable page. You can either board a horse at your own estate or board with other estates. To board at another players’ estate, you must first select a discipline.

Boarding livery tiers:

  • DIY - You must feed, water, and groom
  • Part - You must groom but the horse is automatically fed and watered
  • Full - The horse is fully cared for

Horse Care

Horses need to be fed and watered in order to show, train, and breed. Grooming is optional, but it gives a boost to breeding. You can find more about how to care for your horses here.

There are a few different ways to care for horses:

  • You can care for horses directly from their page.
  • You can care for horses from Herd Management. This is easier if you have hired the employees from Construction.
  • You can board horses at part or full livery boarding.
  • You can set horses’ feed and water to storage which means you’ll only have to worry about grooming.

Horse Breeding

On Eqcetera, you can breed any two horses together as long as they are male and female and breedable. Non-breedable horses are those under 2 years old, geldings or sterilized mares, and horses that are resting from their last breeding. There are no breed restrictions for breeding but be aware that some crossbreeds are “recognized” in the game and others are generic crossbreeds.

You can breed a horse by visiting your Breeding Grounds or going to the heart icon on your horse’s page. You can also pay a stud or brood fee to breed to other players’ horses.

Before breeding, there are a few things to consider.

  • Genetics - foal genetics will come from their parents. Read more about genetics here.
  • Breed Standards - foal breed standards are the average of their parents’ BS with a bit of a wild factor thrown in.
  • Training Boost - If the average of the parents’ levels together are at least 5, the foal will receive a training boost which accelerates the PS it gains in training throughout its life.
  • Grooming - If the parents are groomed, there is less of a wildcard when factoring foal BS.

Crossbreeds

If the parent horses in a breeding are not two of the same purebred breeds, you will get a crossbreed.

There are 3 ways to breed:

  • Pure x Pure - There is a set BS for all purebreds in the game. The closer a foal is to the perfect number, the higher the rating is. A pure x pure breeding with the same breeds will result in a pure while those of different breeds will result in either a registered or unregistered cross.
  • Reg Cross x Reg Cross OR Reg Cross x Pure - If the registered crosses are the same, the foal will be a registered cross. If the registered cross is bred back to a parent breed, the result will be the registered cross. If neither of these conditions are met, the foal will be an unregistered cross.
  • Unregistered Cross x Anything else - This foal will always be an unregistered cross. Breed percentages are calculated on parentage then using a weighted average.

Horse Training

If you are upgraded, you can open your own Training Center. Otherwise, you can go to Community Training to see the currently open centers.

To train a horse, you must have at least the primary discipline selected. There are many disciplines on Eqcetera which use a variety of stat combos. Picking a discipline(s) that suits your horses stats is important. You can pick a primary and secondary discipline but only one is required to train and show. This article outlines a 3 step guide to picking your horses best discipline(s). Each discipline has a primary, secondary, and tertiary performance stat (PS). Note, you want the primary stat to be the highest! To increase your horses PS you need to train.

Training increases performance stats (PS) which pass down to a horse's offspring, determines show placement, and helps move your horse to high show levels. This article outlines information on training. It is important to know that show scores heavily weigh the primary stat of the discipline so it's best to have a high primary stat score. Once you have set disciplines and trained, now you can enter shows.

Horse Showing

You must select a discipline before showing your horse. Basic players can enter horses into 5 shows per day while upgraded players can enter horses into 10. Game shows are automatically created every night. Players can create their own shows which will the next day.

Shows are split into different tiers which are determined by a horses’ PS in the specific discipline.

  • Foundation
  • Local
  • State
  • Regional
  • National
  • International
  • Elite

Horse customization

There are a couple of ways to make your horse stand out from the crowd! Here is a list of items in Eqcetera. Some can be equipped to your horse to make them unique!

Making Money

Showing is a great way to make money. Once your horse is boarding, fed, and trained, you can enter it into competitions by clicking the Show button on its page. Competitions are site-wide so your horse will be competing against other horses. Horses earn Performance Stats (PS) through training so make sure to train your horse before entering it into shows.

Entering your horses in high entry fee shows will also result in greater monetary returns. It’s a good idea to pick out a few good horses that place well and enter them into a few high entry fee shows.

You can also create shows for other players to enter. A portion of the "prize pot" or all entry fees will go to show creators. Choose popular disciplines to get the most entries, and therefore be the most profitable.

You can visit the Shrouded Mine. You may explore it and find minerals, ingots or cash. You can always sell the minerals and ingots if you’re lucky enough to find some! You gain 5% energy per 5 minutes so be sure to check back frequently!

We also have a Game Room that you can check out for little mini-games that can help you earn a little bit of spending money!
